FRED JACKAMAN (continued)

Fred Jackaman‘Jackaman’, as Sensei would always call him, began his training in 1964 under the guidance of Wallus Rumen and Cal Avila in Monterey, California.

An auto mechanic by trade, it was Jackaman who was one of the top fighters in the dojo, along with Siani, Geeter, Larkin and others, but it was that reverse punch he had mastered and his fighting spirit that were his trademarks.

His favorite form is either Arakaki Unsu or Wanquan.

“Wanquan is short and powerful, but I believe it is functional and suits my body style,” says Fred. He learned both from Sensei Kim and has spent his Martial Arts career in training and perfecting them both.

A stickler for fundamentals, he strongly believes that basics and kata are the essence of karate. Like he says, “otherwise it is just street fighting.”

Jackaman is now a 6th degree Renshi and trains at the Washinkan Dojo run by Mr. Ken Shockey.
