PATRICK McCARTHY (continued)

Pat McCarthyAlthough Pat did not start with Sensei Kim until 1978, he earned his 4th dan straight away from Sensei Kim who obviously realized his talents and natural ability.

He started at the Saint John Judo club under Dutchie Schell in 1967 and went onto Kyokushin karate the following year under Adrian Gomes at the YMCA.

McCarthy’s skill and knowledge have far succeeded many of Sensei Kim’s senior students and, in fact, in a letter to Mr. Charles Goodin, Sensei Kim says that his two most advanced students were Peter Urban whom he deems an absolute genius and Pat McCarthy.

McCarthy has competed in all types of events and is now living in Australia but travels the world teaching Martial Arts. He travels at least 8 months a year and his seminars are packed to the brim.

An acclaimed author of several books, his most famous perhaps is his rendition of “The Bubishi”, which he researched while he lived in Japan and Okinawa, where he stayed for nearly 10 years studying and learning with the old school instructors.

These are but some of Mr. McCarthy’s senior students: Dirk Thesenvitz [German], Kurt Graham [NZ], Conrad Lee [England], Chris Mazzali [Oz], Steve McLellan [NZ], Ante Brannbacka [Finland], Per-Ivar Andersson [Sweden], Frank Barca [Oz], Olaf Krey [Germany], Don Ouellette [Oz], Richard Ouellette [Canada], Dudley Driscoll [Canada], Darrin Johnson [USA], Tyler West [USA], Jason Griffiths [Oz], and Hubert Laenen [Belgium].
