Until a man becomes one with himself, his intellect is involved in an attack that he is making. This causes him to be defending in his mind and he will say to himself, “What if I miss? What shall I do?”
When that part emerges the intellect takes over just as it does when you attack and are not one with yourself, kyo is created. These blind spots in your awareness gaps are called kyo.
In the JKA for fourth dan examination you must explain what kyo is and be able to demonstrate it against an attacking person.
Usually shodans or nidans have lots of kyo. Of course you will only be successful if you are able to feel it.
