CONTROLLING YOUR EMOTIONS... (continued)

Chuang Tzu said that it’s simple and he gave a seemingly simple story that really wasn’t:

A man was afraid of his shadow and he was afraid of it every day and since he wanted to get away from it, this particular day he ran as fast as he could. The shadow kept up with him. He went faster but the more he increased his speed, the faster the shadow went, keeping up with him. When he stopped, the shadow was there. It stayed right by his side. Finally, he came to the conclusion that he hadn’t been running fast enough so he went all out this time but, unfortunately for him, it was too much for his body and he dropped dead of a heart attack.

He did not realize that if he had stood in one spot long enough, the shadow would have disappeared because of the sun – it would be underneath him when the sun was directly overhead.

In other words if you meet an emotion that seems to get away from you – that you cannot control – if you “sit” long enough, that emotion will disappear by itself because of your position (the pyramid position of the lotus posture). That’s where meditation comes in; that’s the reason that it’s so important.

The lotus posture makes your body similar to that of a pyramid so that the vibrations come down in a certain way, from all over. If you concentrate below the belly button (the tanden), all the energy converges at that one spot, when you get the tanden in harmony. It brings a delightful feeling – a fantastic feeling of energy. When you send it back out, you harmonize with the universe and you can aid and abet, controlling this energy by a function that you have sounded. That’s the reason why doing a mantra or sutra is effective. If you hit the right sound and get that vibration, you’re in tune with the universe and you charge up your energy levels.
