Tony TrocheTony Troche began his study of the Martial Arts in 1939 at the Fort Street and School Street dojo of Tetsuo Higami. Higami was a Ju Jutsu and Judo expert, as well as a professional wrestler. His ring name was “The Rubberman”. Troche went on to study Judo in Japan under Watanabe Sensei and Daigo Sensei.

In 1949, Troche lived in San Francisco, where he continued his study of Judo and also Aiki Ju Jutsu under Raymond “Duke” Moore. Troche also studied under Mits Kimura, Richard Kim (Daito-Ryu Aiki Ju Jutsu and Shorinji Ryu), and Frank Matsuyama (Aiki Jujutsu) from 1957 to 1966.

In the 1950s, Troche began the study of Karate under Yuko Takahashi, the San Francisco representative of the Shudokan under Kanken Toyama (1888-1966, student of Anko Itosu). Troche also trained under and was tested in Japan by Toyama.

In San Francisco he trained under Sensei Kim for 14 years and formed a relationship that lasted for many years. Troche later moved back to Hawaii where he was a member of the Hawaii Karate Congress, as well as the Hawaii Karate Kodanshakai. He trained with many sensei in Hawaii and has taught at numerous seminars.

Troche’s Martial Arts training spans over six decades and several arts and styles. He currently teaches a free children’s Karate class in Waianae, Hawaii.
